Bridges are symbolic in the way they connect territories that are apart or disassociated, so when I got an invite about the public art project called “Bridges to Bridges” I looked forward to seeing the work. The show is currently on display at The Bridges restaurant in Dumbo and features the art of James Frederic, who is showing drawings, along with two photographers Olya Turcihin and Chad Weisser. In collaboration with The Bridges owner Gina O’Keefe, Martine Bisagni, gallerist of the Workshop Gallery Artists Foundation, curated this event. Coinciding with DUMBO’s First Thursday, the work found a relaxing home amidst the jazz music that permeated the space by Brooklyn trio Michael Irwin, Phil Rowan and Allan Rubenstein. The show will be up until March 1st, bridging the gap between art and community and also the city’s chaos with the cozy, relaxing feeling at The Bridges. A twenty five percent portion of the proceeds of any sale of work goes to CHIP’s Soup Kitchen. So stop by to show your support for these local artists and perhaps support a local cause, as well.
